Accent on Dance Academy was founded in the Hawkesbury district in 1975 and continues to maintain proven standards of excellence. The academy has 100% pass rate in Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) grade ballet examinations. Past students are now dancing professionally both in Australia and overseas. Many students although not pursuing a dance career have benifited from the disciplined training as a preparation for their future careers.
Accent on Dance students have performed at Dreamworld and Movieworld on the Gold Coast Queensland; performed and attended workshops in Disneyland, CA, USA; attended classes at "The Edge" dance studios in Hollywood; attended a Musical Theatre Tour of Las Vegas(2000-2001, 2005-2006 & 2010-2011); were a part of the 2000 Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Sydney 2000 and Gymnastics Olympic Gala, Winners of National Australia Bank Dance the Dream Competition 2009. Selected to perform at the Royal Academy of Dance 80th Anniversary Gala 2015.
Classical Ballet (RAD) - Pre Primary to Vocational Grades, Acro, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, Character, Musical Theatre, Modern and Pointe work. Students accepted from three years of age to adults.
All students are supervised by the Principal and taught by fully trained and qualified teachers.
Peta Gray: RAD RTS, IDTA, Royal Academy of Dance Majors Graduate, studies in child psychology, Member of the NSW Royal Academy of Dance Regional Advisory Panel. Peta is a Professional Choreographer and Adjudicator; she is motivated and dedicated to providing only the best in dance education to her students.
Kate Gray: Kate is a Contemporary dance teacher who has a keen interest in developing a safe dance environment for students to investigate and improve on their abilities. Kate began her Dance training with Accent on Dance at the age of 3, where she studied in Classical Ballet, Modern, Tap, Hip Hop & Jazz. She later went on to complete a Bachelor of Performance, Theory and Practice (Dance) a Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) and is RAD qualified to Advanced Level. Kate has performed professionally on the Sydney club circuit, as well as the theme parks on the Gold Coast. She has grown up competing in various eisteddfods and was also involved in the 2000 Olympic Opening Ceremony. Kate has travelled to the US on four separate occasions performing at Disneyland and attended workshops at The Edge Dance Centre under the guidance of some of the best teachers in the world. In 2013, Kate lived in New York City, where she studied all genre of Dance at Broadway Dance Centre, graduating with Excellence. Currently, Kate is an active Dance teacher in the Public education system. she has choreographed numerous dance items which have been performed at both Regional and State level. Kate is a regular practitioner of Vinyasa and Yin yoga which she strongly believes in integrating into her Dance classes.
Phoebe Foster: Bachelor of Arts (Dance), Dip Ed., RAD RTS. Phoebe is RAD qualified to Advanced Level and has trained extensively in Modern contemporary, she has performed on the Gold Coast and worked with internationally acclaimed choreographers. Phoebe started her Dance studies at Accent on Dance as a young child and has taught dance at AOD for the past 20 years. Phoebe's love of Classical Ballet and Modern Contemporary inspires her students to strive to perform their best.
Elise McKinnon: From a young age, Elise has trained with Accent on Dance in Classical Ballet, Modern, Tap, Hip Hop & Jazz, she has performed at Dreamworld and Whitewater World on the Gold Coast. Elise has travelled to the US on four separate occasions performing at Disneyland, attending workshops at The Edge Dance Centre, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Martha Graham Dance Company. In 2010 Elise graduated from Newtown Performing Arts with a Band Six majoring in Dance with her Core Composition achieving call backs. In 2011 Elise graduated from a full time Course at Brent St Studios with a Certificate IV. In 2013 Elise lived in NYC, USA where she studied all genre of Dance at Broadway Dance Centre graduating with Excellence. Elise has completed her Certificate in Ballet Teaching with the Royal Academy Dance.
Rachel Maybury: ACROBATICS
Rachel began gymnastics at age 4 & began competing at 6 representing her school at Zone, Regional and State level, winning State Champion at age 11. She studied at Newtown Performing Arts and classes at Brent St.Studios. Rachel gained her Gymnastics and Sports Acrobatics, Acro/Dance Coaching accreditations, as well a Sports Medicine and Advanced First Aid Certificate and has done cheerleading for the Canterbury Bulldogs and West Sydney Razorbacks. Rachel has toured throughout Australia with Nickelodeon appearing as Dora the Explorer and other characters and has frequently appeared on the NRL Footy Show. Rachel has been teaching and coaching since 2004 and brings an abundance of experience and knowledge to AOD.
